Beat Back Fracking is part of the Pioneer Valley GRP’s wider campaign to combat climate change by switching to safe, clean, renewable energy. We want to keep Massachusetts frack-free and ensure that the electricity we use in Massachusetts isn’t the result of fracking anywhere else.
Is fracking likely in Massachusetts? The State Geologist says “probably not,” and we hope he’s right. But we need to beat back fracking whether it’s happening right in our back yard or in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Wyoming, Colorado, or California. Wherever we live we share the same climate, and natural gas is a fossil fuel that is making the problem of climate change worse. So the GRP opposes fracking unreservedly and wholeheartedly.
The GRP is an independent political party, the Massachusetts affiliate of the Green Party of the United States. But we are working with allies in the local chapter of Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) to counter the threat of fracking. We are confident that this inter-party progressive cooperation will prove successful in Massachusetts, a state where the Democratic Party controls approximately 90% of the seats in the Legislature.
In the weeks ahead we’ll be updating this site with news about pending legislation in the State House and local bylaws.
